red blood cells
contains haemaglobin which transports oxygen in bloog e.g. oxygen or carbon dioxide

it is a circle with a smile and no eyes or nose

Q

What are the features of erythocytes?

A

dimpled surface - increases surface area faster rate of diffusion

no nucleus - more space for haemoglobin and carries more oxygen

Q

What is ciliated epithelial cells?

A

cells that line the inside of tissues e.g. lungs, blood vessels, gut

look like long crowns on a base

cilia wave to move mucus + particle along

Q

What is squamous epithelial cells?

A

look like lots of eggs joined together

very thin layer of cells

have short diffusion pathway so faster rate of diffusion

e.g. capillaries

Q

What is neutrophil?

A

a type of phagocyte (wbc)

engulfs foreign particles e.g. pathogens and digests them with lysosomal enzymes

looks like a big c with an E and small dots

Q

What is sperm cell?

A

male gametes (haploid)

head = acrosome
part of head = lots of mitochondria

tail = flagellum

acrosome has enzymes to hydrolyse the jelly layer surrounding the egg

lots of mitochondria - atp for swimming

flagellm - allows sperm to move to the egg
