Special Shoulder Tests Flashcards
What is a slap tear?
Tear of labrum where long head of biceps attaches to labrum.
You can have a labrum tear that isn’t a slap tear…SLAP is just a specific location
Anterior instability tests
Anterior load and shift
Apprehension
SLAP tests
Crank test
Obrien test
How to perform ant. load & shift
Stabilize shoulder & scapula
Grip humeral head with lumbrical grip
Re-center & then translate A/P
(Most ppl have more ant. mobility than post.)
How to perform apprehension test
Supine
Shoulder and elbow at 90
Passive ER until signs or report of instability
Checks ant stability, especially if it feels better when u stabilize ant shoulder as u do it
How to perform crank test (a SLAP test)
Seated or supine
Abduct in scaption & flex elbow to 90
Axial compression w IR & ER
click, catch, or reproduction of s/s indicate mechanical problem/SLAP tear
Obrien SLAP test
Seated/standing
90 shld flex & 15 horizontal add w full IR
resistance to distal forearm
Look for click, catch, or reproduction of s/s
Retest in supination
RC or AC joint can produce false +
Long head of biceps tests
Speeds
Yergasons
How to perform Speeds test
Seat/stand Shld flexed to 90 & full supination Test w resistance S/s reproduced in bicipital groove Retest in pronation should decrease symptoms
How to perform Yergasons
Seated w elbow flexed to 90, forearm neutral
Resist ER & supination
Pain or snapping in bicipital groove
(Looks like closing a door)
What muscle does empty can test?
Supraspinatus
AC joint tests
Shear
Obrien
Crossover
How to perform shear test
Seated
Post scapular pressure & ant clavicle pressure (cup clavicle)
A/P shearing force reproduces s/s
How to perform crossover test
Seated Shld flex to 90 & IR Stabilize shld & passively adduct Reproduction of s/s at A/C joint (Can use for biceps tendon injuries too)
Impingement tests
