5-10 times
Indications for PROM
1st 2-6 days or during inflammation after injury.
When AROM would hurt the healing process
When patient is unable to move actively
Goals of PROM
Decrease complications that occur w immobilization Maintain mobility and movement awareness Minimize contractures Maintain elasticity Assist circulation Enhance synovial movement Decrease pain
PROM does NOT
Prevent muscle atrophy
Increase strength or endurance
Give circulation as much as active movement does
Is PROM considered a manual technique for billing?
No. It is a therapeutic exercise
Indications for AAROM
Subacute stage of healing
Patient can contract mm but can’t move full ROM
Can be used for aerobic conditioning
Indications for AROM
Pt is able to contract a segment wi or without assistance
Goals of AROM
Provide sensory feedback
Stress to issues attachment/stimulus for bone and joint integrity
Maintain elasticity
Increase circulation and prevent thrombus formation
Develop coordination
Self assisted ROM tools
Wand or T bar Wall climbing Overhead pulleys Skate or powder board Reciprocal exercise unit
