Passengers who are unable to sit upright during takeoff and landing due to a medical condition, may sit reclined only if;
(4 possible reasons)
- Passenger has been certified by Physician as medically unable to sit upright during takeoff and landing.
- The passenger is in a seat adjacent to the fuselage and is not seated in a row that is next to or immediately in front of an emergency.
- The seat immediately behind the passenger’s seat is vacant.
- The back of the reclined seat occupied by the medically unfit passenger does not obstruct any other person’s access to the aisle or the emergency exit.
What methods or tools can be used to give a visually impaired passenger his/her special needs briefing?
Also what other specialized briefing should they receive?
- Describe exit locations in terms of number of rolls to the exit by counting seat backs.
- Advise passenger of the location of the tactile row markers or raise characters on or below the overhead bins.
- Offer a braille briefing card.
- The appropriate brace position for that passenger since they would be unable to receive the information in an emergency demonstration.
- The location to place any service animal that accompanies the passenger.
- Familiarize the passenger with their surroundings, location of seatbelt, F/a call button, drop-down oxygen, table tray, seat recline, fresh air vent, baggage storage, proximity to lavoratory and life vest.
- Storage of Cain beside the sidewall in the overhead bin or if collapsible in the seat pocket.
