Describe the procedures used for hot air balloons.

A
  • Generally operations are only requested when the wind is southerly and less than 8kts.
  • The preferred site to inflate and launch is the area east of taxiway K, north of R24.
  • Operations are subject to traffic and the DATCOs approval.
  • Launches outside operational hours are permitted and the balloon pilot must make blind calls on 123.150.
  • The pilot is to advise ATS when 2 minutes away from launch.
  • Actual lift off must be authorised by the DATCO, at which point any landing traffic will be switched to R24 until the balloon reports clear of the R20 approach.
  • The details of the flight, registration and call sign will be recorded in the log book.
  • The pilot is requested to phone the following day to provide departure and landing times and place of landing.

Are gliders accepted at EGKA?

A
  • Gliders may depart at the discretion of the DATCO, taking into account the weather and traffic situation.
  • If a glider pilot requests to land and it is too close and low to safely land elsewhere then every assistance will be given to ensure a safe arrival.

Is banner towing approved at EGKA?

A
  • Banner towing companies must be approved by the aerodrome authority, but it will remain the responsibility of the DATCO to authorise each flight, subject to operational requirements.
  • Such authorisation should not be withheld unreasonably providing significant notice has been given and it will not unduly disrupt the aerodrome operation.

Who needs to be given details of a Royal/VIP flight and where can it park?

  • The RFFS will be passed the flight and parking details for a Royal/VIP flight.
  • The helicopter may park on H2/H3 or outside the old ASU hanger.

Describe the procedures for aerobatic flights in and around the ATZ?

A
  • Aerobatics are not authorised within the ATZ outside the published hours permitted for circuit training .
  • Aerobatics may be authorised in the overhead provided hat it doesn’t affect the normal operations within the publisher circuit training times.
  • The aircraft must not descend below 500ft to comply with the Rules of the Air legislation, any alterations to this will only be given by the aerodrome authority for the following, using display axis, 02/20:
    (a) Display authorisation renewals.
    (b) Displays or practice displays associated with events involving the aerodrome.
  • For each of the above the aircraft commander must show their CAA issued Display Authorisation.
  • The SATCO/ DATCO must authorise and log the display.
  • The DATCO shall permit the display subject to traffic at the time.
