Fixed Wing Flashcards

1
Q

Describe the circuit procedures for fixed wing aircraft.

A
  • Normal fixed wing circuits are Left Hand at 1100ft.
  • Dedicated low level circuit details are permitted at 750ft on R24 Left Hand and R06 Right Hand only.
  • A low level circuit to land is permitted on other runways where it is operationally necessary or due to weather conditions. Pilots should be warned to remain clear of built up areas as much as possible.

Q

What are the conditions attached to using Runway 02/20 grass?
(11 points)

A

1) No touch and goes permitted.
2) Considered as a single runway with R02/20 (no simulations approaches or departures)
3) Holding point for R20G is L2, holding point for R02G is J1. NB. Aircraft taxiing via Lima for L2 have to cross R13 and must receive a specific clearance to do so.
4) The Runways 02/20 and 02/20G are outside the Clear and graded areas for each other, therefore aircraft may hold on either runway whilst the other is utilised.
5) Aircraft departing R20G should use the same noise abatement routing as R20 hard.
6) PAPIs are for use on R20/02 hard only.
7) Aircraft may use taxiways Alpha and Bravo whilst 02/20G is in use.
8) No aircraft is to be between K1 and R20 whilst aircraft are landing/departing R02G.
9) No aircraft is to be between K1 and R20 whilst aircraft are landing on R20G.
10) Aircraft lined up on R06 & R13 numbers are infringing R02/20G.
11) ATCOs shall be clear as to which runway is being referred to in any clearance, e.g “Runway 20 Grass”, “Runway 20”.

Q

What are the procedures for different or dual runway operations?

A
  • Simultaneous circuit details on more than one runway will not normally be permitted particularly if this will be overly restrictive to helicopter circuits operating in the usual manner.
  • This is at the DATCOs discretion.
  • T&Gs on one of the runways other than that which has been notified as the runway in-use should only be accepted in conditions of light traffic so that delays are kept to an absolute minimum.

Q

What are the noise abatement procedures for departing aircraft?

A
  • Aircraft departing R20 or R20G should make a 10 degree turn to the right on reaching the railway line. This track should be maintained until reaching the coast before turning left/right on course.

Q

Describe the procedures for aircraft departing and landing?

A
  • All aircraft should make their departure turns above 600ft unless approved by ATC.
  • Departures from R20 & R20G are to be flown in accordance with the noise abatement procedures.
  • Aircraft departing R02 should make their definite turn once their wing has passed Lancing College Chapel.
  • ATCOs should be aware of aircraft departing R02/R06 turning early, especially visitors, which may compromise the helicopter circuit. Pertinent traffic information should be given before a take off clearance is passed.

Q

Which areas of the airfield are aircraft able to use for night operations?

A
  • Aircraft may only use lit areas at night.
  • If the runway-in-use during the day is grass then it must be changed to either R20/02 as appropriate before the commencement of official night.

Q

Which points on R20/02 are considered to be beyond the point at which a take off clearance can be cancelled?

A
  • R20: When the aircraft is between the windsock and HTA W.

- R02: When the aircraft has passed HTA W.

Q

An aircraft has requested a glide approach to R06 or R02, what should you consider before approving the request?

A
  • If the aircraft is making a glide approach to R02 it should be approved subject to helicopter circuit operations on HTA W.
  • If the aircraft is making a glide approach to R06 it should be approved subject to helicopter circuit operations on HTA X.

Q

Wha are the procedures used for an aircraft with a radio failure?

A
  • Aircraft should join overhead, descend deadside and overfly the runway in use at 500ft and join the circuit to land.
  • Standard light signals from the tower should be used.
  • Military, and possibly some civil, aircraft may waggle their wings in order to attract attention as the overfly the runway or, at night, rev their engines.
  • At night the apron floodlights may affect the observation of the light signals from the tower when R20 is in use and ATCOs should extinguish them.

Q

When are non-radio aircraft accepted to land at EGKA?

A
  • The aircraft must have booked in on a PPR (prior permission required) basis.
  • A time period shall be given to the pilot within which they will be expected to arrive.
  • Approved aircraft are to follow the radio failure procedure to land.
