Q
Ranking data: Quick recap
A
- Put results in ascending order.
- Lowest score rank 1 etc
- If scores share ranks then they share the mean of those ranks
3
Q
Calculation steps
A
- Calculate the ranks for variable 1.
- Calculate the ranks for variable 2
- Calculate difference (d)-Subtract variable 2 ranks from variable 1 ranks for
each participant. - Square d for each participant (d²).
- Sum d²
- Then use formula
n=the number of pairs used
Σ=”the sum of”
d’“the square of differences in rank
- This is the calculated correlation co-efficient

Checklist
A
Ordinal data
Test for relationship between co-variables
5
Q
Significance
A
If the calculated r,value is greater than or equal to the critical r,value the result is significant reject Null Hypothesis. If the calculated r value is less than the critical r value the result is not significant = accept Null Hypothesis.
