Calculation steps
A
- Assign each cell a letter (A, B, C etc) – value is observed value o
- Calc row, column and overall totals
- For each cell expected frequency
e= (Row total ×Column total)/
(Overall total) - Then calculate X^2 for each cell
X^2=∑(o-e)^2/e
- Add them all up for calculated value of X^2

Check critical value table based on 1-tailed/2-tailed hypothesis, significance level and degrees of freedom df = (rows-1)(columns-1)

Significance Statement
A
If the calculated X^2 value is greater than or equal to the critical X^2 value the result is significant = reject Null Hypothesis.
If the calculated X^2 value is less than the critical X^2 value the result is not significant = accept Null Hypothesis.
