What IRF and IRE?

IRE: Teacher intiates, Student Responds, Teacher Evaluates
What does the PACE model of grammar instruction entail?
P: Presentation
A: Drawing students’ attention to forms
C: Co-construct a grammar rule
E: Extend the grammar concept to other contexts

What is bottom-up processing and what are some examples?
“meaning is understood through the analysis of language parts”
Ex: looking at sounds, intonation; combining words into phrases, looking up words, recognizing word order, analyzing sentence structure, translating words, etc.
What is top-down processing and what are some examples?
“meaning is derived through the use of contextual cues and activation of schemata.”
Ex: identifying key ideas, guessing meaning, anticipating the content based on the genre, predicting the ending, summarizing
What are some characteristics of good speakers?
know the content
know when to speak spontaneously
maintain eye contact
use multimedia
practice their presentation
know how to alter the presentation as needed
offer the audience the opportunity to ask questions
What does TPACK stand for?
TPACK (Technological, pedagogical and content knowledge)
Need a balance of these three things
