What were some key points of the UN Outer Space Treaty?
Wanted to regulate escalating Cold War tensions between US, UK, USSR. Space was neutral: couldn’t be claimed, no nuclear weapons launched from space, moon is for peaceful purposes only. Effective 1967. (unnoosa.org)
How did the space race affect the US and USSR economically and socially?
Economically, it was expensive for the US but it caused more funding to be directed into schools and science education. It was very expensive for the Soviet Union and crippling for their economy. Socially, art/design etc. became influenced by the space race, as did media (space race class notes)
