drought - fungal disease much less of a problem. and sometimes summer floods can be experienced.

Grenache - does well in the warm dry summer and Syrah - performs better in the cooler sites

high in tannin, acidity and color, but can lack the fruit or finesse. old vine Carignan on poor soil can produce quality wines.
