Sound Flashcards
What is needed in order to produce sound?
A vibration.
What happens when a sound is produced?
Molecules in the air carry the sound to different places.
How do the particles carry sound?
They carry the sound by compressing then moving apart.
What is the name of the machine that allows us to see sound waves?
An oscilloscope.
What is wavelength?
The distance between two peaks/troughs.
What is wavelength measured in?
Metres.
What is a crest/peak?
The highest point of the sound wave.
What is a trough?
The lowest point in the sound wave.
What is the amplitude?
The height of the crest.
What is frequency?
The amount of complete waves that pass a certain point in a second.
What is frequency measured in?
Herts (H2)
How does the volume of sound change the amplitude?
The louder the sound, the bigger the amplitude is.
How does the wavelength change the frequency?
The smaller the wavelength, the higher the frequency.
How does the frequency change the pitch?
The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch of the sound.
