Circuits Flashcards
What is a series circuit?
A continuous circuit with no branches.
What is a parallel circuit?
A circuit with two or more branches so the electricity is forced to split into a different path.
What is current?
Current is a flow of how much electric charge flows through the circuit.
How is current measured?
Current is measured in Amps (A)
What can be used to measure current?
An Ammeter.
What type of circuit is an ammeter always connected in?
Series.
What do electrons need to move?
Energy from a cell/battery.
When do electrons use up the most energy?
When they move through different components.
What is the difference in energy between different parts of a circuit called?
Potential Difference.
What do we measure potential difference in?
Volts (V)
What do we use to measure volts?
A voltmeter
How are voltmeters connected?
In parallel across to the component being tested.
Describe current.
A measure of how much electric charge flows through a circuit.
Describe potential difference.
The energy needed to push electrons round a circuit.
What will current equal in a series circuit?
The same current flows through each part of the circuit.
