Lung Wind Heat

A

manifestations: redness, swelling & px of the throat, acute onset of symptoms, increased px upon swallowing or coughing, sensation of dryness & burning of the throat accompanied by fever, aversion to cold and cough w/ thick sticky phlegm
T: red tip w/ thin yellow coating
P: rapid, floating
Tx: course wind, clear heat, disperse sweling disinhibit pharynx
Pts: : LU11, LU5, LI4, LI11
hoarsness of voice: LU7, LI18

Exuberant Lung & Stomach Heat

A

manifest: severe px w/ redness & swelling of throat, px often radiating to the base of the ear and beneath the jaw, difficulty swallowing, sensation of throat obstruction w/ hoarseness in some cases, accompanied by symptoms of high fever, excessive thirst, h/a, halitosis, thick sticky yellow phlegm, constipation, dark scanty urine
T: red w/ thick yellow coat
P: surging
tx: clear heat, resolve toxins, disperse swelling, disinhibit phayrynx
Pts: LI 1, ST44, CV22, ST40
high fever add: GV14, LI11
constipation add: ST37

Depeletion of Lung & Kidney Yin

A

manifest: slow onset or extended course of illness, slight redness, swelling and pain of the throat w/ dryness, itching or burning sensation of throat, symptoms milder in the morning and more severe in afternoon/night. possible dry cough w/ scant sticky phlegm or no phlegm. additional dizziness, vertigo, blurred vision, weak aching lower back and knees, irritablilty, insomnia and vexing 5 ht heat
T: red w/ little coat
P: rapid, thready
Tx: nourish yin, downbear fire, disinhibit phayrnx
Pts: CV23, KD3, LU7, KD6, LU10
5 ht heat add: HT8
qi and yin vacuity: CV6, ST36
