- > 1 week
- dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- > 3 weeks horse voice
- extremely painful, no improvement in 24 to 48 hours
- red swollen tonsils
- high fever and swollen lymph glands
Medication ADR for sore throat (Bone Marrow suppression medication)
- carbimazole
- methotrexate
- clozapine
- sulfasalazine
Medication ADR for sore throat (oral thrush)
steroid inhalers

OTC treatment: for pain
oral analgesics
OTC treatment: Throat soothers
Demulcents lozenges
- glycerin
- honey
OTC treatment: Anti-inflammatories
Benzydamine
- difflam oral rinse (12+)
- difflam spray (6+)
Flurbiprofen
- Strefen lozenges (12+) (max dose 3 days)
Gargling dispersible aspirin (16+)
OTC treatment: Local Anaesthetic
Lidocaine (throat spray) (12+)
Benzocaine lozenges (3+)
Hexylresorcinol (strepsils extra triple action) (6+)

- chlorhexidine

Anti fungal Lozenges
- Dequalinium chloride
Antiseptic and Anaesthetic
- Amylmetacresol
- 2,4-dichlorobenzyl alcohol
Sore Throat advice
- drink lots of water
- avoid very hot drinks
- eat cool soft foods
- lozenges
- gargle warm salty water
- avoid smoking
- sugar free lozenges for diabetics
