What are the two types of impetigo

Bullous

What is Bullous impetigo
A
- starts are small red, sores around the nose and mouth
- quickly develops into blisters and bursts
- can be itchy but otherwise asymptomatic

What is Non-Bullous impetigo
A
- Common in neonates.
- Starts as fluid-filled blisters on trunk or arms/legs.
- Quickly spreads before bursting.
- Can be painful and itchy.
- Fever and swollen lymph glands is more common.

A
All cases, as they need antibiotics
- topical fusidic acid cream (mild cases in small area
- Oral flucloxacillin in severe

OTC symptomatic treatment
A
Paracetamol if needed

Impetigo Advice
A
- Contagious (stay away from school until rash disappears)
- Hygiene measures
(Do not share towels, do not tough lesions)
(cut nails short)
