First line for conjunctivitis
A
Chloramphenicol (2+ years)
— Eye drops
every 2 hours for 48 hours then every 5 hours from waking time for 5 days
— Eye ointment
apply 3-4 times daily for 5 days

Chloramphenicol contraindications
A
- family history of blood dyscrasias
- history of myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression) with chloramphenicol use

Propamidine Isetionate

Conjunctivitis advice
A
- bathe eye lids in lukewarm water to remove discharge
- regular hand washing
- avoid pillow sharing
- avoid contact lenses during and 24 hours after treatment
