Ectomorph key characteristics
Long thin frame
does not build muscle easily
generally, does not store fat easily
narrow hips and narrow shoulders
suited to sports where being light or tall in an advantage as there is less weight to carry
Mesomorph key characteristics
wide shoulders and narrow hips
solid build - higher muscle mass
low levels of fat
suited to activities requiring power, strength and speed
Endomorph key characteristics
‘pear-shaped’ body
narrow shoulders with wide hips
has a tendency to store fat
suited to activities that require power, r where added weight is an advantage
Ectomorph sporting examples. Why?
ectomorphs use their low body fat and weight to jump higher on the high jump and to run long distances without the excess weight from fat and muscle bulk
Mesomorph sporting examples. Why?
mesomorphs can use their speed and strength to generate power in the legs when sprinting
they also use it to punch in boxing, with a greater force and speed
Endomorph sporting examples. Why?
endomorphs can use their bulk t add momentum when throwing the shot put
they can also use it to overpower or resist opponents in rugby (rugby forward)
