Solutions to climate change Flashcards

1
Q

Name AND explain 3 local strategies to climate change

A

BIKING/ WALKING
As less cars are on the road there is also less CO2 being released from them

RECYCLING BINS
Less waste in landfill = less methane
Less new product need to be made = less energy needed for production (less CO2 from electricity)

ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHTBULBS
75% less energy needed compared to traditional lightbulbs meaning less fossil fuels needed to be burned to generate electricity

Q

Name AND explain the 4 nation strategies to climate change

A

PLASTIC BAG TAX
This forces people to charge a minimum of 10 pence a plastic bag, encouraging reuse and reduces landfill waste

RENEWABLE ENERGY (e.g. Wind Power)
No fossil fuels burned = no greenhouse gases

REDUCED TAX ON ELECTRIC CARS
If you own an environmentally friendly car you pay less tax
This reduces petrol and fuel burned

Q

Name AND explain the 2 international strategies to climate change

A

COP 26
Country Leaders came together and agreed of 4 goals:
1. accelerate the phase-out of coal
2. reduce deforestation
3. speed up the switch to electric vehicles
4. encourage investment into renewable energy

WORLDWIDE AFFORESTATION
In west africa the “great green wall” initiative plans to have countries surrounding the sahara replant trees.
This means there are more trees to take in CO2 therefore it will reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere if successful
