Q

Name developments made to irrigation (3)

A

Commercial farming has been possible since the building of the Indira Ghandhi Canal. This has made previously infertile desert land fertile and boosted the local economy dramatically.

This also allows for commercial non-foods e.g. cotton to be grown.

The canal also supplies drinking water, improving living standards and freeing up people especially children/ women from having to go on long journeys to collect water.
