Soluble (except silver chloride and lead chloride)
Are common sulfates soluble or insoluble?
Soluble (except lead, barium and calcium sulfate)
Are common carbonates and hydroxides soluble or insoluble?
Insoluble (except for sodium, potassium and ammonium ones)
How do you make Insoluble salts?
-You can use a precipitaion reaction
-Add 1 spatula of lead nitrate to a test tube and add water to dissolve it
-In another test tube add 1 spatula of sodium chloride
-Tip the two solutions into a beaker and stir until there is a precipitate
-Then filter it and leave it to dry leaving lead chloride
How do you make Soluble salts with an Acid and Insoluble Base?
-You can use a neutralisation reaction
-Heat the acid in a water bath to speed up the reaction
-Add the base to the acid to produce the soluble salt and water
-You know it’s in excess when the excess solid sinks to the bottom of the flask
-Filter it, heat to evaporate any water and leave to crystalise
How do you make Soluble salts with Acid/Alkali reactions?
-You can use a neutralisation reaction
-Measure out an amount of acid into a conical flask with a pipette and add some indicator
-Slowly add the alkali to the acid using a burette until you see the colour change
-Repeat this process without the indicator so it’s not contaminated
-Slowly evaporate off some of the water and leave it to crystallise
