Solo Doc - Comp Flashcards
1
Q
Improv response
A
- process of brainstorming words to generate movement that relates to my intention
- theme of solo
- lethargic, heavy and exhaustion
- step forward as body contracts with arms covering face stop in stillness, showing exhaustion and heavy
- the process helped to create movement for my comp solo that met my intention
- as by focusing on words such as exhaustion it encouraged me to make movement that expressed this like showing exhaustion through the weight of my upper body

Q
Selection response
A
- process= filmed 6 phrases on my laptop to review to select phrases that met criteria of large dimension and intention
- i selected 3
- the 3 phrases included leg kicks and arm gestures that produced a large dimension, also showing terror and restlessness
- M.V = windmill arms and end in lunge, large dimension, then walking as i twitch showing restlessness
- 2nd M.V = elevated movements, firebird and abstract jete
- 3rd M.V = extended arm and leg movements eg, are reach and leg kicks showing large dimension and fear/terror
- process allowed me to pick phrases that met criteria and intention for development and beginning section
3
Q
Arrangement response
A
- process = performing phrases in front of mirror to make the form and unified composition
- ABC form
- beginning = restlessness, medium to low levels w/ light force
- development = terror, high level, strong force
- resolution = haunting, falling movements and medium to low levels
- 2 phrases for beginning
- 1 M.V = pacing in circle twitching
- 2 M.V = low level with me kneeling, contracting body with arms covering
- then 1 phrase for development
- elevation and strong arm gestures = arms cross face as i jump
- this process allowed me to arrange phrases to fit my form and make a unified composition
4
Q
Refinement response
A
- refine direction by drawing a floor plan, realising my beginning section did not have clear structure
- i had an forwards and backwards direction because…
- why did this not work
- instead decided use the direction of a circle as i performed pacing, frantic and medium level movement eg. lunges as it showed the mental and physical effects of being restless and frustrated
- by refining it allowed to meet the criteria and show the ABC form clearly and intention
5
Q
Pre Performance response
A
- to perform solo with technical accuracy did a warm up targeting specific muscles used in my solo in order to express intention
- development section = flexibility, elevation and large dimension to show terror
- movements include one legged jumps, leg kicks and rolls over shoulder
- focus on hamstring quadricep and abdominals
- warm up and stretch by wall sits leg mounts and sit ups
- hold and repeat
- then practice specific steps to make sure i am warm
6
Q
Performance response
A
- performance process = focusing on demonstrating my motifs and how i manipulated them to meet criteria
- 3 motifs that helped to show the emotion of the story and how the emotions progressed through a narrative form
- falling asleep motif to show transition of beginning and development section
- had to make sure my focus was indirect to make the motif seem i was falling asleep
- by demonstrating clear motif through the focus of my body it enabled to tell story through choreographic devices to meet criteria
