1. Mineral content - when minerals in soil have been used up farmers can add fertilisers
2. Climate - irrigation to soil, drainage schemes which allows oxygen into soil and reduces soil acidity and strip cropping reduces soil loss by winds and water runoff.
3. Biota can be increased by leaving some land fallow every few years and introducing new animals and plant to soil.
4. Time - rejuvenate soil by adding new parental material and new organic matter like compost.
