What does the CSEW neglect compared to realist victim surveys?
That much crime is concentrated in inner city areas on deprived council estates. Some people who are interviewed will still not report that they have been a victim of crime

In depth survey that focuses on victims of crime and their experiences within a certain geographical area. Interviews are sympathetically conducted in an unstructured way, looking at the impact of crime on individuals

- 33% of households experienced serious crime in the last 12 months - Some women didn’t go out after dark for fear of being attacked, Zedner (1984) - Crime was the second biggest problem that people encountered
