Q

What are the disadvantages of the CSEW?

A
  • Jock Young (1988), 20-25% refuse to take part so the full picture isn’t shown - Ellingworth (1995), it’s not representative in location and age - Box states Marxists would focus on upper class - Ellingworth and Pease, repeat victimisation makes it hard to measure extent

Q

What is Box’s opinion on victim surveys such as the CSEW in the eyes of Marxist sociologists?

A

Marxist sociologists would focus on the crimes that are committed by the powerful upper class and whether victims feel that they can report such crimes without fear of intimidation or exploitation. This might affect the ability for victims to report their experiences in the CSEW.
