generalized, anonymous, common method of gathering opinion, however, lying may happen
In depth Interviewing
open-ended, detailed, and difficult to standardized to make comparisons, making participant selections smaller
Dramaturgical Analysis
engage with people and evaluate/interact with the small sample, may have selection effects
Ethnography
complete immersion into a group or community, all encompassing, larger scale of dept and time
Secondary Data Analysis
large scale, general social survey, less control, and data isn’t always available
Content Analysis
examining existing material, textbook, media, TV, etc
Hawthorne Effect
observing the social world may change it
Qualitative Data
descriptive and depicts qualities or characteristics
Quantitative Data
numerical data, often statistics and from surveys
Random Sampling
more accurately depict the types of demographic in the area of research
