Socialization
the process of learning to behave in a way that is acceptable to society

stage one of self-development: copying those around you
Play/Game
stage two of self-development: playing with norms and learning through play

the ability to understand and take into account the attitudes and viewpoints of those in our society
Moral Socialization
the process of children’s development of understanding of moral world through interactions and shared activities
Nurture
the process of children’s development
Agents of Socialization
family, friends, school, workplace, religion, government, mass media, etc
Resocialization
the process in which one’s sense of social values, beliefs, and norms are re-engineered
Total Institutions
place of work and residence where a great number of similarly situated people, cut off from the wider community for a considerable time, together lead an enclosed, formally administered round of life
Conventional Morality
rules and considering other’s needs and feelings when deciding good or bad
Post Conventional Morality
abstract notions of good or bad, something legal may not be good to certain people
