self-concept
the way a person actively thinks about themselves as a person, distinct from identity, which is a broader sense of self including integration of self-aspects into cohesive and stable concept.

social learning theory
- the development of self-concept occurs alongside the development of social cognition. children learn by; observing the behaviours others, observing how others react to those behaviors, observing how they (the child) feel about those behaviors.

children who witnessed the actor being punished for their aggressive behavior imitated fewer behaviors. children easily reproduced behaviors when promoted.

stage 3 (10-12) : Mutual: recognizes motivations of others as a third-party spectator.
stage 4 (12+): societal: makes comparisons of self and other to a ‘generalized other’.
