Social Economic group
Groups split people according to their job/profession
Highest order - professional where people have lots of responsibilities
Lowest order - no limited responsibility
High responsibility jobs get paid more than the lowest order
This can affect the participation rate
The reasons are cost, availability (hard than other activity) and time (family commitment)
Gender
It’s determined by someone’s sex
The participation rate depends on the nature of the activity
There are different barriers preventing taking part
IMAGE - men may not dance of play netball and ladies may not do rugby and boxing
COST - women generally earn less than men
TIME - women may have family commitments and less time for sport
Age
It’s split into groups based on there age
ACCESS - a local tennis allow juniors to play at weekend but if they have a part time job they cannot play
COST - bills need paying than sport
TIME - less time due to work
NATURE OF ACTIVITY- difficult to participate when you get older
Ethnicity
Based on culture
CULTURAL INFLUENCES - family influencing whether they should do activity or not
STEREOTYPING - where people from particular backgrounds are steered toward or away from certain activity
E.g African being associated with and encouraged to compete running event than swimming
COST - groups may have less money to spend
Disability
May influence their choice in activity
But they can do wheelchair tennis or rugby
Availability- lack of facilities
COST - specialist equipment may be expensive
ACCESS - lack of ramps
STEREOTYPING- whether the person is disabled people assume they cannot take part
