What is socialisation?
The proses of learning our cultures , norms values and beleifs
what is primary socialisation?
the child learns from immediate family in the home . it adapts to the beliefs values and expectations of the house hold e.g learning manners (eating with a knife and fork) learn bodily functions and what to say and do
what is secondary socialistion?
Child learns what wider society expects and takes place outside of the home e.g school
What is a role model?
people that children will copy/ become their role models. e.g girls may be given domestic toys like a baby doll and learn to act like their own mothers.
what is formal socialisation?
people are deliberately and consciously manipulated to ensure they learn to follow certain rules- obey society e.g in education children may be taught to obey those in authority
what is informal socialization?
people learn to fit into thier culture by watchig and learning from others e.g manners- eating with a knife and fork, saying please and thank you

What is habitus?
Having a similar accent, set of manners and patterns of thinking to our family members- personal habits, skills, where your most at home

children learn social skills by watching and copying their parents e.g children learning when and what to eat, how to control their bodily functions and what to say and do from their parents.
what is instrumental role?
a functionalist understanding of the male’s function in the family- task to provide for the family
what is expressive role?
a functionalist understanding of the female’s function in the family.- female is to provide personality stabilisation, emotional support and child rearing.
