We have know since 1939 that there is a higher prevalance of Schizophrenia in people living in Urban places

What is Social isolations link to Schizophrenia?
Research suggests that overcrowding and Urbanicity can cause social isolation, which has been linked to Schizophrenia as they report solitary back grounds
Evidence - a longitudinal study found that kids who developed Schizophrenia were more likely to isolate as children
What is the link between Ethnicity , Discrimination and Schizophrenia?
Research has found that people with afro-carribean descent are more likely to be diagnosed with SCZ, it is suggests that issues such as discrimimation (which may cause isolation) are responsible for these findings

It is unclear what causes the increased risk of Schizophrenia in urban areas , so it is impossible to blame it on any factor , (such as social stress), reliably as the cause is still unknown

Ethnic minorities may suffer from discrimation in psyschatric services , some believe that they are less likely to trust authority , this may be seen as paranoia and makes a diagnosis more likely
Why is the social drift hypothesis significant in terms of evaluating the link between schizophrenia and urbancity? (Evaluation)
It suggests that once someone is diagnosed with a mental health issue such as Scz, they demonstrate a decline in their socioeconomic status so have to move to more densely packed areas. Therfore it seems as if urbanicty causes scz when really its an effect of a diagnosis
Why is it hard to establish the cause and effect between Schizophrenia and social isolation? (Evaluation)
It is known that schizophrenia causes people to isolate, so reseach may stuggle to establish the cause and effect between isolation and Scz as it is know to cause isolation.
