what is a social network?
a social structure of actors and the dyadic ties between them
what is collaborative filtering?
a recommendation technique (used by amazon)
the idea is to predict what the user wants to buy by collecting preferences from many users
if user A shares a relevant preference with user B, then they are more likely to share other preferences with each other than random people
what is first story detection?
the study of how to automatically detect novel events by analysing real-time social media data such as tweets
