Intelligent UIs 2 Flashcards
how do eye trackers work? (4 methods)
they infer where the user is looking at the screen by tracking eye rotations, using one of four methods
projecting infared light towards the users eye to generate purkinjie images which can be used to infer the users gaze
optically detecing users gaze via a camera
EUG - electrodes are placed above/below/left/right of the eye which measure the eye movements
contact lenses with sensors that rotate with the eye - invasive
what is a saccade? what is a scanpath?
a jump of the eye movement, ends with fixtation
a scanpath is a series of saccade-fixtations
what is the eye-mind hypothesis?
what people look at is what they think about
what is the midas touch problem? how do counter?
the issue of how to seperate looking around from activating interface elements
dwell-timeout - gaze for a fixed amount of time to trigger action
what are some applications of eye tracking interfaces?
dismissing pop ups, acknowledging that the user has seen something and dismiss it
gaze-contingent displays - change the content on the display based on what the useris looking at
attentive UIS - identify if sers are focusing on a particular part of a display
how does Zhai propose we leverage eye movement in an AUI
- the eyes and hands tend to work in combination
- eye gaze control should be implicit, indirect
- hands should be explicit, direct
- eyes are always under voluntary control
what is Augmentive and alternative communication?
a study of alternative comms methods for those who have difficulty using speech or writing
some users rely on their eyes to communicate using AAC devices
what is eye typing?
users control an on-screen keyboard by fixign their gaze on the keys
limited by dwell timeout
can be configured to be faster
