group of people who try to change/resist change in society
protesting

boycotting
contentious act of withdrawing from commercial/social relations as a form of protest

low risk - high cost = sit-in
high risk - low cost = confrontational tactics
high risk - high cost = illegal protesting
ideology
individual feels committed to the goals of the movement in order to participate
efficacy
belief that they are capable of behaviours required to produce specific outcomes
resources
must have resources that allow them to engage in social movements
biographic availability
have opportunity to convert ideology into action during different life stages
social ties & identities
having ties to other activists and creates identity for people who participate
politics context & free spaces
small scale setting within a community/movement that are removed from direct control of dominant groups
