Social Learning Theory Flashcards
Describe the Social Learning Theory
Model those who we identify with or admire (media, peer-influence, parents, peers)
Doesn’t believe in a direct stimulus - response relationship
BUT
thinking about the outcome of our actions - humans are responsible for their actions
Explain Vicarious reinforcement
Based on rewards and punishments gained by others - we decide if we should copy them
What are the mediational processes (cognition)?
1) Attention - to the behaviour
2) Retention - remembering the behaviour
3) Reproduction - can we carry out the behaviour
4) Motivation - do we need to carry out the behaviour
What scientist used the Social learning theory?
Bandura with the Bobo doll
Explain Bandura and the Bobo doll
PROCEDURE: kids watch adult being aggressive with bobo doll
FINDINGS: children copied adults behaviour - mainly the same sex
Did the findings support Bandura’s SLT?
This supports Bandura's SLT Learning by: - observation - modelling - imitation - punishment & reward
