Social Learning Flashcards
SLT
Behaviour learnt by observing and imitating other
Element of thinking is involved ie process betw indv and environment
Modelling and role model
Role model pov, demonstrate spec behaviours eg friend modelling kindness by offering food
Sig indv eg older sibling as inspo
Imitation and self efficacy
Copy observed behaviour eg seeing older sibling being reawaded for grades so they continue w same mindset
Knowing ability and confident eg relied upon to succeed
4 stages of social learning
Attention = placed on behaviour of model
Retention = cog elem, stored in STM as rehearsed
Reproduction = rep in app situation
Motivation = v reinforcement or punishment drives repetition of behaviour so conseq to role model determine motivation to imitatate or not
Vicarious reinforcement
Role model rewarded= OBS likely to show behaviour future eg hardworking= successful and rich so observer imitates hardwork ethic
Vicarious punishment
Punished ie agg behaviour= unemployed so obs less likely to display aggressiveness
Intrinsic and extrinsic
Inherent satisfaction eg imitating mom, child feels gud
Tangible outcome ie money, trophy
Strength
I research evidence
J bandura children more likely to imitatate agg model of sane sex + model rewarded then likely to imt agg
E Inc validity of slt exp due to evidence and findings app irl eg education system as behaviour as by observation, imt, v.rein, affect likelihood of actions
Weakness
I genetic and environmental factors imp
J kendker id twins SIM agg compared to non, indv diff in social behaviour is genetically inf
E SLT not comp exp for aq of all types of behaviour
W. Counterbalance
Didn’t entirely ignore bio factors, claimed behaviours aren’t determined by social learning
Way it’s exp, learnt and not actual urge to be agg
