Pavlov Flashcards

1
Q

Aim

A

Learn about salivation reflex and exp role of conditioned reflex in eating behaviour of dogs
How salivation astd w new stimuli (unr to food) and prop of astd

Q

Procedure

A

Dogs, salivation measured drops/ tube
Sound proof chamber
Metronome w food and before= salivation, 20times checked reflex by putting meat
salivation to food inborn link so UCR and salivation to metronome CR and CS before cr

Q

Findings

A

Salivation after 9s,11 drops by 45s
Meat in mouth imm salivation
Dog alert and no other stimuli to affect conditioning
Secondary condition ie buzzer cab become cs and give cr, Buzzer after 5 to 10s cs= no salivation

Q

Strength

A

I carefully controlled exp except for iv
J soundproof chamber= hearing footsteps outside not possible so isolate v that’d cause salivation and effect accuracy + saliva measured cannula to prev loss
E high int v, cause and effect r establish about dog salivation to buzzer

Q

Weakness

A

I dogs so issues of generalising on humans as diff species so diff structure 🧠
J large cerebral cortex in humans so it’s complex
E generalised findings on humans not entirely true due to diff in brain physiology as brain and thought process diff comp to dogs
