  • Government defines low income as below 60% of the median (mid-point on the income scale)

A

A

Trussel trust (food bank charity)
- 4.7 million people were in food poverty
- These people couldn’t afford a healthy diet
- In 2020 the food parcels increased by 50% (covid related)
- During covid more middle class families are using food banks

  • Perceived poverty
  • Not having enough money to own or do essential things
  • They define poverty as being forced to ‘exist’ rather than live
  • Households that lacked 3 or more necessities were classed as ‘poor’
