What is the definition of co-operating and competing?
- Co-operating is where you work together with others to achieve a goal
- Competing is where you strive to win something by defeating others who are also trying to win
What is the impact of co-operating and competing on performance?
- By co-operating a team can progress together
- By working together players in the team will feel more confident, feel they can rely on each other and help others to learn new skills which can be used in games.
- By working and learning as a team players will play to better levels and will increase the motivation and positivity in the team.
What is the definition of contributing to a team?
When you are member of a team you will be expected to contribute towards the group. the more each player contributes the more successful a team will become
What is the impact of contributing to a team on performance?
- Team mates can point out where improvements can be made to make a performance better
- If you are fulfilling your role this will Motivate other players to fulfil their role.
- Not contributing and not fulfilling your role will impact negatively on performance as fellow teammates begin to lose faith in your performance/ability.
What is the definition of team dynamics?
Team dynamics is the interaction of performers within a team or group. It is mainly to do with making the group more effective as a unit.
What is the impact of team dynamics on performance?
- Positive impact if a team communicate well and help and advise each other of what to do when.
- Positive if each member in the team plays for each other and not as an individual.
- Negative if players hide and don’t fulfil there role which could lead to gaps in team for instance in basketball not coming back to defend leaves space for opponents.
What are the approaches for developing social factors?
- Team building games
- Partner and group work
- Use of role models
What are Team building games?
- Team building games are designed to help improve a variety of skills required to be a successful team.
- These games create challenges which help team improve dynamics.
- Decision making Games should improve Communication, Confidence, getting to know each others strength and weaknesses
What are some examples of team building games?
- Everyone must touch the ball before you can shoot (encourages communication)
- Must say the persons name before you pass to them (encourages communication and helps get to know each others names)
- Only one person can communicate whilst defending(builds trust and communication but also allows strengths and weaknesses to be identified)
What are examples of partner and group work?
- Conditioned games to build communication and cooperation
- Team presentations to build confidence, cooperation and communication
- Taking responsibilities in a group to build responsibility, respect, and develops social skills that are required.
What is a role model?
A role model is a person whose character and behaviour is looked up upon by those who would like to be in the same position
What should a performer/team be looking for when studying a role model?
- Passion
- Ability to inspire
- Their values
- Commitment
- Selflessness
- Ability to overcome obstacles
What is the advantage of using a role model to develop social factors?
A role model will display qualities that the performer/team is trying to develop which allows them to learn from that person.
