Physical Factors Flashcards
What are the physical factors which impact on performance?
- Complex skills [Physical Skills]
- Timing [Physical Skills]
- Consistency [Physical Skills]
- Cardio Respiratory Endurance (CRE) [Physical Fitness]
- Speed [Physical Fitness]
- Agility [Physical Fitness]
- Personal strengths and weaknesses [Physical Tactics]
- Role Demands [Physical Tactics]
- Team strengths and weaknesses [Physical Tactics]
What are Complex skills?
complex skills are skills which have many sub routines which need to be performed to a high standard for the skill to be effective.
How to complex skills impact on performance?
- Complex skills impact negatively on performance as they require a lot of skill to play correctly.
- If subroutines are performed incorrect the skill will not be effective.
- timing and consistency of the skill can lead to it being ineffective.
What is timing?
Timing is the ability to execute a skill or movement at exactly the right moment and with the correct level of emphasis
What is the impact of timing on performance?
- If skills are not executed at exactly the right moment they may be performed incorrectly leading to the skill being ineffective.
- if a skill is played to late it might be easy for an opponent to react and intercept
What is consistency?
Consistency is the ability to perform skills or movements correctly over and over again?
What is the impact of consistency on performance?
- If a performer is not consistent they will struggle to perform the same skill correctly time and time again which leads to ineffective results and the opponent is not challenged.
- Consistency allows a performer to feel confident at what they are doing as they do not need to think of how to perform skill as its in their muscle memory.
What are the approaches for developing physical SKILLS ?
- Shadowing
- Feeder
- Repetition
- Target
- Combination
- Pressure
- Conditioned games
What is shadowing?
- shadowing is when a performer will perform a complex skill without the physical equipment of a ball or shuttle.
- The performer walks through the skill to get used to it
What is the disadvantages of shadowing?
-Can become boring
What is the advantages of shadowing?
- Allows a performer to get the subroutines into their muscle memory
- performed under no pressure
- no physical equipment to aim for
What are Feeder drills?
- This involves performing a skill over and over again with the use of the equipment.
- For example in badminton a partner will serve to you and you will return using you complex skill, this will be repeated for a series of shots.
What are the advantages of Feeder drills?
- Partner can give feedback
- Allows a performer to get the subroutines into their muscle memory
- performed under little pressure
What is a disadvantage of feeder drill?
-can become repetitive and non challenging which causes boredom.
What is the repetition training approach?
-Repeatedly performing your complex skill over and over again
