When a person has positive interactions with another individual or group of individuals. It results in feelings of acceptance and belonging.
Emotional Role
We often attach emotional experiences to food; we can experience these emotions when eating this food, therefore having an emotional role in our lives.
Individual Identity
The concept people develop about themselves; a person’s personal qualities, interests and beliefs influence it. It is the things about people that make then unique. Can also be referred to as self-image.
Social Role of food
How people use food to communicate and connect with others in social settings, For example, food can communicate a person’s social status and express friendship, gratitude and concern.
When does food play a social role?
When it is being shared. It is served at many social activities like birthdays, Christmas, get-together, marriages, school tours, and work-related meetings.
When does food play an emotional role?
Food can trigger or impact certain emotions. From a young age, people associate food with a range emotions- happy or sad, celebrating or commiseration, angry or peaceful, in isolation or a crowd. Food many help people cope or express specific emotions.
How can emotions effect our food choices?
Seeing, smelling, and eating particular food may remind us of specific person or event.
How can food reflect our individual identity?
The foods we prepare, share and consume can reflect many aspects of our lives that contributes to identity. The food we consume conveys what we value in life.
How does food reflect moral values?
Some people identify as being healthy and therefore immerse themselves in healthy eating and exercise. others may be focused on environment and adopt more ethical eating habits.
Hoe does someone’s culture contribute to someone’s identity?
A person’s culture, values, and beliefs often shape their food choice. The food we eat if often an integral part of cultural customs and celebrations. Migrant families often express their culture using ingredients and cooking methods from their home.
