What are the types of play ??
Solo play: play on their own, egocentric, oblivious to what others are doing
Parallel play: alongside but not directly with other children, mimic actions, not with 2+
Associate play: Play alongside, take an interest in what others are doing
Co-operative play: Play alongside, take interest on what others are doing pl /1

•In our generation, media helps to keep older generation engage
•Hochschild argues the theory is flawed as it has an “escape clause” where those who don’t disengage are considered troubled outliners
•She also argued they fail to provide evidence that disengagement is willingly done

Rejects the idea that you disengage as u age

• Physically unable to tend clubs
• Intellectual, may forgot past knowledge and find it hard processing new knowledge
• Feel lonely, and less motivation to go out
• Older adults don’t tend to have jobs (social)
Factors that go against disengagement theory
• Older people enjoy joining clubs, designed for older people
Examples of activity theory
•Join clubs
•Spend time with grandkids
•Gardening
Critisms of activity theory
Some can’t maintain middle-aged lifestyles
