Nature Vs Nurture Flashcards
Maturation theory
Gesell argued, children go through the same stages of development, at their own pace
Social learning theory
Bandas theory that children model behaviour by watching others
Bandas four stages of learning
1) attention- a child will pay attention to one’s actions
2) retention- a child remembers the action
3) reproduction- reproduce the action aiming for the same reaction
4) motivation- depending on the response, a child will repeat this action
positive and negative reinforcements
Positive:
- child is satisfied with the reaction (rewards)
-A child will repeat this behaviour
Negative:
- a child is dissatisfied with the reaction (punishment)
-A child is unlikely to repeat the action
Banduras experiment
Bodo dolls, demonstrated that children learn and copy behaviour if they’re subjected to it
criticisms of Banduras theory
it ignores the influence of biological factors and behaviour and develop (eg: hormones and genetics)
three. Main points of maturation
1) development occurs in predictable, orderly sequences
2) development milestones are largely biological driven
3) environment plays, limited role in development regardless of their environment
The Kellman triplets
Robbie:
• loving environment
• adventurous
David
• supportive environment
• outgoing
Eddie
• supportive environment
• friendly
criticisms of maturation theory
PRA argue the child is more influenced by environmental factors
