Social Cognitive Learning Theory Flashcards
What does SCLT assume?
Humans learn behavior through observational learning
SCTL says what about reinforcement?
Basically, unlike with some learning that we do, we do not need positive reinforcement or a reward to continue behavior. The fact that the model was rewarded or punished for a behavior is enough for us. This is called vicarious reinforcement.
According to Bandura, what are the different cognitive factors involved in SCLT?
- Attention
- Retention
- Motivation
- Potential
Attention in SCLT
In order to learn a behavior, the learner must pay attention to the model. Some of the factors that influence strength of attention are the authority and similarity of the model.
Retention SCLT
The leaner must be able to remember the behavior that has been reserved.
Motivation
The learner must want to replicate the behavior that has been observed so they need to understand what is the potential outcome is if they repeat the behavior.
What the potential outcome of a repeated behavior is called..
What Bandura calls “outcome expectancies”
Potential SCLT
There needs to a certain level of self efficacy (whether it be physical or mental ability) in the learners to reproduce an observed behavior.
