Heuristics & Dual Process Model Flashcards
What model is this based on?
Dual Process Model
Heuristics definition
Mental shortcuts that occur during system 1 thinking that apply a simple rule to quickly generate a probable answer. Done with little thought and rational thinking so it is prone to cognitive biases.
Cognitive Biases
Patterns of thought that are consistent, but inaccurate
3 types of cognitive biases
Anchoring Bias, Peak-end rule, framing effect
Anchoring Bias
The tendency to rely too heavily on the first piece of information offered (“the anchor”) to make decisions that follow after.
Dual Process Model
The dual process model of human cognition states that decision-making can be described as function of both an intuitive, quick and effortless method of thinking (System 1) and a rational, slower mode of thinking that requires more effort (System 2)
Cognitive Load
The amount of working memory resources being used up. When it is too high, ego depletion may occur or System 1 may be used.
Ego Depletion
A loss of self control or willpower when mental resources are used up
