What are the 3 phases of warm-ups?
Cardiovascular(pulse raiser)
Stretching (static+dynamic)
Sports specific movements
What is the cardiovascular phase of a warm up
Gradually raising the heart rate towards the working heart rate. Usually 10-15mims. Helps to mentally prepare
What does the stretching phase include
Static - easy- on the spot stretching without straining
Dynamic - stretches that use movements specific to a sport, gradually increasing your reach and speed
What does sport specific movement phase of a warmup include
Sprint starts
Practice throws
Take off for pole vaulters
Throwing,catching or batting for cricket
Catching crosses, shot stopping for goal keepers
What is a cool down for?
Gradually decreasing your heart rate to its resting level
Phases of a cool down (2)
Cardiovascular phase - gradually decreasing your heart rate 10 mins
Static stretching - 10-15 mins held for 30-35s
What is a SMART goal
S -specific
M-measurable
A-achievable
R-realistic
T-time-bound
Why do we set SMART goals?
To motivate performers into achieving their optimum performance levels
If a goal is too easy or difficult it could de-motivate performers
