What is cardiovascular fitness
The ability to excersise your whole body for long periods of time
What is muscular strength
The amount of force a muslce can exert against a resistence
What is muscular endurance
The ability to use voluntary muscles repeatedly without getting tired
What is flexibility
The range of motion of your joints
How will flexibility impact performance
Execute skills better
Continual training allowing you to improve without injury
What is body composition
The percentage of body weight that is muscle, fat or bone
Why is it importnant to have a healthy BMI?
It will reduce the chance of getting diseases such as diabetes.
It also puts less strain on muscles, bones and joints. This could affect performance.
How do you measure your BMI
BMI is calculated by taking your weight in Kg and by dividing it by your height in m^2.
In order of relevance outline which components of fitness are most important to a point-gaurd
- Flexibility ( a pg needs to be flexible to perform dribbling moves and finishing around the rim against taller defenders)
- Body composition ( a pg needs to be shifty to get around defenders which is hard with a lot of weight)
- Cardiovascular fitness ( a pg needs to be able to run up and down the court for 48 minutes without fatigue and also should be one of the quickest on the court)
- ME (a pg uses muscles like the shoulders and legs for shooting and jumping without fatigue)
- MS ( a pg uses strength to shoot from range and to defend the opponents from getting to the basket)
