Closed skills are…
Skills that aren’t effected by a changing environment in sport. E.g a penalty in football
Open skills are….
Skills which are used where the situation is constantly changing.
A basic skill is…
A skill a player finds easy and requires little concetration to do.
Massed practices are….
Where a skill is practised until its learnt, without taking a break.
Distributed practices are…
Where a skill is practised over several sessions or with breaks, usually for less fit and lower ability athletes.
Fixed practice is…
When a skill is practiced over and over again until its perfect.
Variable practice is….
When you practice a skill in a variety of different situations, so they can adapt for different competitive situations.
What is a complex skill?
A complex skill is much more difficult and therefore required more concentration to be able to complete it to a good ability.
What is intrinsict feedback?
Feedback that you give to yourself
What is extrinstic feedback?
This is feedback that you get from anyone apart from yourself. E.g a coach or parent
What is concurrent feedback?
Given at the time of the performance, for example from the coach on the sideline.
What is terminal feedback?
At the end of a game or performance (or halftime), it’s much more reflexive and a better overview than concurrent feedback.
Advantages of visual feedback…
Learner knows what the skill they have to perform looks like, but if its by a video, they can’t then ask questions on it.
Pros and cons of verbal guidance…
The coach can explain it in further detail to help someone, however it can be hard for beginners to understand the verbal guidance.
What is quantative data?
Factual data that is measurable, e.g it involves numbers.
What is qualilative data?
Where you can look at how people feel about something, or the opinions they have.
How might you want to prepare for a game or sports event?
For most sportspeople, mental preperation starts long before the warm up for the game. Getting the right mindset is something you practise during training, and for which you may even get specialist support.
A common tecnique used here is mental rehearsal.
What is imagery?
A mental or psychological tecnique in which the performer imagines or visualises themselves succeeding with their performance.
Mental rehearsal is…..
Where the performer pictures themselves executing a skill and practices it in their mind, focusing on the specific performance.
How does mental rehearsal help an athlete…..
Reduces anxiety Builds confidence Improves concentration Helps you overcome problems Improves results
