A
  • reducing fraction of nitrogen in alveolar gas - accelerates diffusion of nitrogen out of th ebody. pleural air is mostly nitrogen - increases rate of resorption.

  • lack of water vapour = dry throat
  • can be harmful if given unnecesarily
