pain Flashcards
1
Q
NSAIDs indications
A
- mild to moderate pain
- inflammaotry pain
2
Q
NSAIDs MOA
A
- Inhibit COX. COX 1 = constituent. COX 2 = inducible due to inflammation. main afffects via COX2 path. som selective drugs habbe neen made e.g. etoricoxib
3
Q
SE NSAIDs
A
- GI toxicity
- renal impairment
- increased CVD event risk
non selective = ibuprofen ; lowest SE out of non selective.
naproxen and ibuprofen - lowest CVD
cox 2 SPECIFIC = Less Gi SE but more CVD.
ALL types = renal problems. hypersensitivity. fluid retenion - worsen HTN and HF
4
Q
CI NSAIDS
A
- severe renal impairment
- HF
- Liver failure
- NSAID hypersensitivity
relative - use lowest safest dose
- Peptic ulcer
- GI bleed
- CVD
- Renal impaired
5
Q
NSAID interaction
A
- with low dose; aspirin, steroids = peptic ulcer
- anticoagulants, SSRI, Venlaflaxine and renal impairment, ACE-i, diuretics = GI bleed
6
Q
general naproxen prescription in RA
A
500mg 12hrly takes 3 weeks for effects to start
7
Q
naproxen dose in acute pain
A
250mg orallly 6-8hrly
